Advanced Compiler-Compiler Platform
This document analyzes the impact of implementing the Minotaur UI using C# MAUI (Multi-platform App UI) instead of the React/TypeScript approach originally recommended in the gap analysis.

| Feature | MAUI Implementation | Notes | |———|——————-|——-| | Main Application Structure | Native navigation, tabs | Excellent XAML support | | File Operations | File picker, save/load | Platform APIs available | | Settings Management | Preferences API | Built-in support | | Theme System | XAML resources, styles | Native theming support | | Text Editing | Entry, Editor controls | Basic editing, limited syntax highlighting |
| Feature | Challenge Level | Alternative Solutions | |———|—————-|———————| | Railroad Diagram Viewer | High | Custom canvas drawing, SkiaSharp | | Parse Tree Visualization | High | Custom tree controls, third-party libraries | | Grammar Graph Viewer | High | Custom graph drawing, Microsoft.Toolkit.Graph | | Interactive Diagrams | Very High | SkiaSharp with touch handling | | Code Editor with Syntax Highlighting | High | AvaloniaEdit port, custom implementation |
// Option 1: SkiaSharp for custom drawing
public class RailroadDiagramView : SKCanvasView
{
protected override void OnPaintSurface(SKPaintSurfaceEventArgs e)
{
var canvas = e.Surface.Canvas;
// Custom railroad diagram drawing
}
}
// Option 2: WebView with HTML/SVG content
public class WebDiagramView : WebView
{
public string DiagramSvg { get; set; }
// Render SVG content in WebView
}
// Option 1: Rich text editor with basic highlighting
public class CodeEditorView : Editor
{
// Custom syntax highlighting logic
public void ApplySyntaxHighlighting(string code) { }
}
// Option 2: WebView with Monaco Editor
public class MonacoEditorView : WebView
{
// Embed Monaco Editor in WebView
}

| Approach | Total Timeline | Key Challenges | Platform Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| React/TypeScript | 24 weeks | API integration, deployment | Web + Electron desktop |
| MAUI | 28-32 weeks | Visualization components, custom controls | Windows, macOS, iOS, Android |
// Combine MAUI native performance with Blazor web components
public partial class DiagramPage : ContentPage
{
public DiagramPage()
{
InitializeComponent();
// Use BlazorWebView for complex visualizations
var blazorWebView = new BlazorWebView
{
HostPage = "wwwroot/index.html"
};
// Add Blazor components for railroad diagrams
}
}

MAUI Impact Summary:
Recommendation: MAUI is viable and offers significant advantages for a C#-centric project, but requires custom implementation of complex visualization components that are readily available in the web ecosystem. The Blazor Hybrid approach might offer the best compromise.
